SOLAR FLARE - Solar sculpture on Stephen Avenue
From the creative minds that brought the popular CLOUD sculpture to 2012's Nuit Blanche festival comes another illuminating piece of art.
SOLAR FLARE is a solar powered light sculpture that hangs over the 200 west block of Stephen Avenue. Commissioned by Downtown Calgary and conceived/built by artist duo Caitlind Brown & Wayne Garrett this sculpture is meant to shed some light on the coldest and darkest days of the year.
SOLAR FLARE was created specifically for Stephen Avenue to artificially entended the 'Golden Hour' of light. Anyone who has spent a winter in Calgary knows that the short days and long, cold nights can take a toll on the psyche. SOLAR FLARE is meant to create an artificial atmosphere of light that everyone can come down and enjoy, creating community through spectacle.
The artists Caitlind Brown and Wayne Garrett will be doing an artist talk at The Art Gallery of Calgary on Dec. 19th at 6pm.
