| | Time: 06:00 pm - 09:00 pm / Location: The National Music Centre August 7, 2012 Afrikadey! started with a dream of bringing renowned Afrobeat musician Fela Kuti to a city at the foot of the Canadian Rockies. This dream was realized, and spawned a Calgarian festival that is now in its 21st year.
Get back to the roots of Afrikadey! and see where it all began: Afrobeat.
Each 3 hour session, conducted by Kuti’s Egypt 80 bandmate Dele Sosimi, explores the Afrobeat icon’s typical approach to composition and arrangement. Participants learn about the rhythm section, horn section, brass and reed interplay, phrasing, popular call and response choruses, and chants of Afrobeat.
This workshop is for musicians and Afrobeat enthusiasts with mixed musical skills and abilities. Participants will need to bring their own instruments to the National Music Centre (134 11 Avenue SE).
Tickets are only $150 per person for the 3 day workshop (9 hours of instruction) and are available by emailing info@afrikadey.com or by calling 403.234.9110.
